What book are you reading now?
I've just finished Second Sleep, by Robert Harris.

I'm a big fan of Harris, he's a truly great writer. His prose is always a joy to read, but the ending to this one was, to put it mildly, crap.

He's got a new book coming out next month: V2, a novel set against the Germans' V2 rockets in WWII. Hopefully that will see him back to his best, both in writing and plot.

Recently read
The Phoney Victory: The World War II Delusion by Peter Hitchens (2018) ISBN 9781788313292

Good read for those whose only understanding of the period is from watching BBC documentaries and Hollywood movies.

Interesting in that he repeats what a great many argued for years before but were litigated into submission and bankruptcy.

I'm currently reading The Money Tree by Gordon Ferris. It's a lot slower than his other books but I'm halfway there and soldiering on. I recommend his Douglas Brodie books.

My favourite authors at the moment are Stuart Neville, Steve Cavanagh and Caimh McDonnell. They are all fast paced thrillers. McDonnell's are more on the comical side.

I read lots of books on and off, dipping in when I feel like it. I'm trying to read Dicken's Martin Chuzzlewitz, which is good but very dense and a bit of an effort to get through.

I listen to a lot of lighter stuff to help get to sleep too. The horror/fantasy/sci-fi writer Clark Ashton Smith at the moment.

Talking to strangers
Malcontent Gladwell

In it he explains how we find it so hard to understand what strangers are saying and why.

Am just about to start 'The Border' by Don Winslow, the third book in his Cartel trilogy after 'The Power Of The Dog' and 'The Cartel'.
Stunning author.

Re: What book are you reading now?
BTW I must have read every Robert Harris book except that one. He’s at his best when he’s recreating an historic even as a gripping thriller. The Cicero trilogy makes that bit of history come alive.

Haven't read that, but (for once) agree with you about Peter Hitchens. Not necessarily his politics, but he's a highly intelligent man who is always worth listening to - even if you don't agree with him.

I've also got To Be Someone by Ian Stone lined up on my kindle. About growing up in the 70's with The Jam as the backdrop. Only problem is he's an Arsenal fan but looks good from the blurb.
